SELF-DRIVE TOURS

Self Drive tours have become increasingly popular over the last few years with many visitors to Southern Africa now renting a car upon arrival in their chosen country and touring a part of that country or even several countries, that they want to see, at their own pace.

Southern Africa's scenic and cultural diversity, coupled with its sheer size, makes it an ideal destination for touring holidays, but the main question facing visitors, first-timers in particular, is just what to include on their itinerary.

For the traveller with not so much time, we suggest you take a look at some of the suggested regional or from city touring possibilities that we offer. Those with two or even three weeks to spare, you might like to consider a countrywide or even a multi-country tour and these can be broken down into stages of one week at a time or less, if required. Even for those who are already familiar with parts of Southern Africa, these routing suggestions might provide for further holiday and touring ideas now and/or in the future.

These suggested tours are, in most cases, just examples of what possibilities there are to be taken, but, we have given some examples of the costs involved in a particular self-drive tour, as shown in the routes that show the operator and have a tour code. Any self-drive tour though, may be tailor made to suit your individual travelling needs and requirements. Thus allowing you the opportunity to see the areas that you wish to see and see them at your own pace, rather than being restricted to a coach and/or rail or air travel schedules.

Choosing The Route

The easiest way to choose a self-drive tour is to get to know the countries and then the various regions that Southern Africa has to offer. You can do so by browsing though the COUNTRIES GUIDE information and decide on the area or region, which has the most appeal, or of interest to you. We also recommend that you take a look at our ATTRACTIONS GUIDE too, as throughout these pages, you will find some ideas as to where to visit and at to see and do in the most popular regions. Throughout the site we offer a variety of accommodation types and sightseeing options along with adventure and sporting activities including nature and wildlife experiences, that can and all be included in any itinerary, if you so wish.

Once you have an idea of a route, please take a look through the self-drive touring routes that we have featured in each country or region, shown in the menu on the left hand side of this page and see if there is one that is "nearly" right for you. But if there isn't, don't despair, we have the solution as mentioned, as all itineraries, are flexible and can be adjusted to include anything you wish or we can make one entirely fresh from the start, just for you. The tours that have been selected differ in content and duration, each offering a variety of components, from traditional touring routes to tours that have an adventure or sporting theme to them.

Flexible Itineraries

It is understood that the priced itineraries shown, will not always suit everyone, so, all of these tours are "flexible". Whilst some of them do have a defined routing, it is possible to amend the itinerary to suit any requirements.

• Itineraries can commence on any day (subject to any additional schedules)
• Hotels or other accommodation types at overnight stops may be changed
• Nights can be added - anywhere!
• Additional overnight stops can be added
• Existing overnight stops can be deleted.
• Cars can be upgraded even to a camper van if you so wish.
• Any other travel elements, such as a City Stopovers, a Game Reserve Camp or Lodge Safari or an Adventure or Sporting activity packages can also be included.

Children

Generally, there is no charge for one or two children, 12 years and under, sharing a hotel room and existing bedding (two double beds) with two adults paying the double/twin price. Please do though check with us as these differ from property to property.

Car Rental Included

Included in our priced self-drive tours is the car rental. The car size varies from tour to tour but will be either an economy or intermediate size. All will include unlimited kilometres, Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) Insurance coverage and all local taxes.

If you would prefer a larger car, this can be arranged for small supplement, which is shown in each tours price panel. Please note that fuel, hotel parking or any toll road charges are NOT included in the package.

Documentation

All our pre-packaged self-drive itineraries include a comprehensive information kit. This includes essential information featuring overview notes of the local area, local sightseeing and attractions, route maps and driving instructions. This package will either come with your travel documents or be available at the reception desk of your first overnight accommodation.

What's Included?

All of the tours include accommodation in moderate grade hotels and your car rental. Some tours may also include additional attractions. Full details of what each tour includes are listed with each itinerary.

What's Not Included?

Tour costs do not include any air or other additional transportation fare, any applicable NATIONAL PARK ENTRANCE FEES, car fuel, toll road fees or parking (if applicable) at your hotel or other accommodation. Full details of the items not included are shown with each itinerary.
